Celebrity Dog Trainer Jas Leverette Takes Pride in His Passion and His Roots

OAKLAND — For many, a dog represents loyalty and companionship. For Jas Leverette, this bond serves as a guiding force in his life. “Dogs have always been my anchor,” he shared. A spirited child, Leverette once had troubled moments, but dogs provided a means for him to channel his energy into constructive pursuits.

Over the past 14 years, Leverette has dedicated himself to enhancing the relationship between dogs and their owners through his training enterprise, CaliK9 Solutions, operating in both San Jose and Los Angeles. His mission transcends mere training; it is deeply rooted in a vision of reducing euthanasia rates among aggressive breeds. “There is a significant issue with the euthanization of dogs, especially those perceived as aggressive,” he explained. “My aim is to teach awareness and equip people with the skills to be responsible dog owners and handlers.”

Leverette’s unwavering passion for his work has earned him a notable reputation in the canine training community. His clientele includes not just everyday dog owners but also high-profile personalities. “I’ve had the opportunity to train local stars like Steph Curry and Jonathan Kuminga, along with celebrities like Kevin Hart, Demi Moore, and even animals belonging to LeBron James,” he remarked. However, his commitment to his craft is not limited to the well-off; he makes it a point to assist individuals from all walks of life, including those experiencing homelessness.

This month holds special significance as Leverette emphasizes the importance of recognizing Black excellence. “I’m grateful to contribute to this celebration,” he stated. “Being from Oakland and growing up in hip hop culture, I want to show young people that they can pursue varied passions. You don’t have to conform to societal stereotypes of success. There are multiple avenues to create a fulfilling career while helping others along the way.”
